Accessibility

Accessibility of this website

This site should work for people using a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, or a phone on a slow connection. Where it does not, we want to know.

The standard we build to

WCAG 2.2 AA

We design and build this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, level AA. We have not yet commissioned an independent audit, so we describe what we have done rather than claiming a certified result.

What we have built in

Keyboard operation
Every link, button and form control can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline and a skip link to the main content.
Structure
Each page has one main heading, a logical heading order, page landmarks and breadcrumbs, so a screen reader user can move around quickly.
Contrast and colour
Text meets AA contrast, and status is never signalled by colour alone — notices carry an icon and a written label as well.
Text and zoom
Pages reflow at 400% zoom and down to a 320 pixel wide screen without horizontal scrolling, and text can be resized.
Motion
There is no autoplaying video, parallax or decorative animation, and we respect the reduced-motion setting in your operating system.
Forms
Form controls have visible labels and instructions, required fields are marked, and any error would be described in text next to the field it relates to.
Plain language
We write in plain English, and the pages written for young people are written more simply again.

Honesty about limits

What we do not yet know

We test as we build, using a keyboard, a screen reader and small screens. That is not the same as an independent audit by disabled users.

We have not yet had this site tested independently, so we cannot claim it is free of accessibility problems. When an audit is completed, we will publish what it found, including anything we have not fixed yet and when we expect to.

Wide comparison tables scroll sideways on narrow screens. The scrolling area can be reached and moved with a keyboard, but if that causes you difficulty, please tell us and we will change it.

Feedback

Telling us about a problem

If you cannot use part of this site, or you need information from it in another format, tell us and we will find another way to get it to you.

A monitored contact route will be published on our contact page shortly. We will accept accessibility feedback there, and we will treat it as a fault to fix rather than a preference.
